Wenatchee Students Awarded Medal of Honor

Danielle and Mikael Heins, siblings that homeschool in the Wenatchee area are overwhelmed by the honor of being awarded with congressional medals.

Both students earned the bronze medals  for three years of expeditions, volunteerism and personal development. Only 138 students in Washington have received these medals in the last 30 years and 26 of those went on to earn gold.

Their older sister has earned the bronze medal 8 years earlier and this only pushed the siblings to strive harder. Its a long process and it's hard to think of the gols being so far away. But with one small step at a time they have already reached the bronze status.

Each planned and coordinated explorations of local museums, landmarks and backpacking trips. They incoporated learning graphic design, cooking and even Swedish. They collectively clocked over 300 hours of volunteer time and taught special needs children and kids how to swim including spending time at nursing homes and with local Wenatchee residents in their gardens and home improvements.

On the day they were to receive their medals, the Heinses anxiously awaited the congressman's arrival at the Wenatchee Public Library. There was a short speech on the goals and sacrifice and presented the children with their medals. Each stated they plan on going to to pursue extensive careers but for now, their focus is on the silver medal.

Wenatchee is proud to be home to such outstanding students. We are proud to help those buy or sell Wenatchee homes and property in this area. Whether you are looking in Leavenworth, East Wenatchee or Entiat we would be happy to help buy or sell any property in the area.

I love these types of posts that really highlight individuals, especially kids. It shows that they can do great things and get rewarded for it publically.
